GSC Saturdays

Saturday Drama Club

Every Saturday we ignite the imagination of young actors in small friendly groups. Working with professional actors and stage combat instructors, they play fun games, rehearse plays, strengthen their confidence and learn more about the exciting world of theatre.

In the last year, we've performed scenes from King Lear on The Holy Trinity Church set, performed our own version of The Wind in the Willows at Watts Gallery, a 70s themed A Midsummer Night's Dream and recorded short audio-plays with Eagle Radio (To listen, please visit our Teaching Resources Page).

This term, we're creating a couple of very special (and super secret) public performances...

Summer Term: 1616 - The Year Shakespeare Died

19 April –17 May

1616 marks the end of our greatest playwright’s life. It had been 5 years since he wrote his last play, but the world wasn’t standing still. Walter Raleigh was released from Tower of London to seek gold in South America, Galileo was feeling the heat of the Spanish Inquisition and Ben Jonson was the court’s favoured writer.

Over five weeks we’ll explore the changing face of the world and how it was represented in Shakespeare’s final works. No experience of Shakespeare or acting necessary and all ages welcome.
