What our HOME would give us:

  • A fully equipped rehearsal space providing essential privacy for artists to explore and invent in an exclusive and creative environment

  • A workshop to make and maintain props, set and costumes

  • An incubation space for new projects such as our growing in-house writing, Research & Development work, as well as a space for other artists to develop their work

  • Dedicated space for more classes and developing young people's skills in multiple theatre disciplines, thus helping them prepare for their future

  • Dedicated meeting rooms and break out space

  • Costume fittings can take place alongside rehearsals, and stored and maintained on-site

  • Production office for stage management team

  • Showers and dressing rooms for artists

  • Public conveniences for audiences

Your support, however large or small, will go directly to making more inclusive and affordable theatre and education experiences for everyone.

The New Beginnings Campaign will raise money to fund the procurement of our future home and associated charitable activities which help achieve this aim.

Our Vision is for GSC to be one of the most recognised theatre companies in the South East, a model for performance and production excellence and region leaders in Shakespeare education.

To do this we need to find a PERMANENT HOME, ensuring GSC has an holistic approach to making theatre. We hope our home will be a valuable asset and resource for Guildford, of which its residents can be proud.

PHASE 2 - The Plan

Following our wonderful experience with the Magical Mirror Tent at Grimms' Fairy Tales the concept for our permanent home is to commission and build our own permanent Spiegeltent.

The Mirror Tent for Grimms'

This inspiring space will host GSC performances, rehearsals, events and education classes.

To facilitate the administrative side of GSC, the Spiegeltent will have ancillary buildings containing offices, workshop, storage, dressing rooms, kitchen and conveniences. The plan is to have them designed and constructed from sustainable materials and be ecologically friendly, fitting into the natural landscape of the site.

Suggested wooden ancilliary buildings

  • A physically identifiable presence for GSC
  • Increased performances and productions throughout the year
  • Increased events including rehearsed readings, poetry nights
  • Longer rehearsal periods, R&D and new writing opportunities
  • Ability to hire the space to other artists, theatre companies (professional and amateur)
  • Educational facility for classes, as well as the opportunity to invite schools to the space for bespoke workshops and performances
  • Potential regeneration of the chosen area
  • Nationally, the only permanent Spiegeltent in the UK
  • A unique asset for Guildford

  • We are looking for a site that is approximately 1100sqm (11,840sqf) minimum
  • The estimated cost for the project is approx. £1.3million
  • With a prospective timescale of 2-3 years.

  • Appoint a firm of architects and project managers
  • Identify potential sites
  • Begin feasibility studies
  • Begin applications to funding bodies and investment groups

Do you know of any land within 2 miles of Guildford centre that we could use?

We want to hear from anyone who owns/knows of/can put us into contact with land that would benefit from becoming the home of GSC. If you do, please email us.

Are you, or do you know of, a funding body or philanthropic investor?

In order to help fund the creation of this facility we are looking for individuals and groups who believe in the cultural well-being of Guildford and its regions as much as we do. Our home will benefit Guildford, its residents and visitors through arts engagement and education, and if you are someone who can support such an enterprise we would love to hear from you. Email us

Our audiences have been incredibly supportive of our Vision and the funds raised in 2016 will be key in helping us begin this huge project. You can continue to donate to New Beginnings when buying your show tickets, setting up a standing order or donating through our GSC Benefactors scheme.

On 6 December 2016 we rounded our 10th Anniversary year off with a special Gala Night performance at Guildford Cathedral, attended by 160 people.

A cast of 15 actors, who have appeared in previous shows, performed alongside 12 members of the company’s youth drama club, GSC Saturdays; whilst Sarah and Matt narrated the GSC 10-year story.

Our Honorary Patron, Brian Blessed OBE, regaled us all with anecdotes and also drew the raffle and the auction.

The evening raised an incredible £6550 for New Beginnings - THANK YOU to everyone who donated, contributed and attended.

You can help us achieve these ambitions and take a leading role in our future by becoming a GSC Benefactor and sponsoring Matt's Bard-Walk Adventure...but who will you be?

  • Prospero £1000
  • Cleopatra £500
  • Hamlet £250
  • Titania £100
  • Bottom £50
  • Juliet £25
  • Falstaff £10
