22 July - 7 August, 2010 - University of Surrey Lake
For the second play in our 2010 Season we chose Shakespeare's epic tale of magic and power, which we staged at the University of Surrey Lake.
We were thrilled to welcome to the company former Coronation Street star Bill Ward who played the banished Duke Prospero ("A diamond tipped performance" What's On Stage). Together Director Hannah Chissick and Designer Susannah Henry made the very most of the the enchanting lakeside setting, with beautiful lanterns in the trees, a paper light-boat that seemed to drift magically across the lake all by itself, and the lovers Ferdinand and Miranda made their exist floating away from the island on a raft.

"GSC have pulled off quite a coup...The strength of this production is undoubtedly the performances and for that alone it's worth a trip to Surrey." What's On Stage
"As darkness fell the lake became gunmetal and the sky streaked with violet. Thistledown fell silently from the willows and music hummed softly. A magical end to a magical evening."
"What an asset your company is to Guildford."
"I had a very immediate sense of the actors and the set, the actors were fabulous, capturing magic, romance, humour, and a good outcome.
Thanks for bringing the play to life!"
"The whole performance of The Tempest was excellent. We had a twelve year old and a fifteen year old in our party,
both of them sat enthralled throughout -- no fidgets at all. We'll be looking out for your next production."
